Build-A-Bear & BGTM
Yesterday, a small group went to St. Louis to build bears at Build-A-Bear Workshop. After we built bears, we delivered them to Boys & Girls Town of Missouri in St. James. The kids were very attentive and asked great questions about how things worked at BGTM. We did a driving tour & got to see the inside of the school there. The kids were great about donating the bears they'd just made. Prayerfully, they will be used to bring smiles to some of the kids there - probably as birthday gifts.

The Kitchen field trip
God works in the most amazing ways. Today was one of those days when I got chills seeing His work.
Today, 19 kids, 5 adults & 2 teen helpers went to Springfield, MO to The Kitchen. It's a unique ministry to the poor & needy. They provide counseling, medical care, a temporary homeless shelter to women & children, transitional housing (apartments), a soup kitchen, 2 resale stores and daycare for families in the homeless shelter.
Our kids got to tour the facilities and do some work. The resale stores are open & sell to the public. They are also set up on a voucher system to distribute clothes & household items to people in need. They take in many donations of items, including lotsa dishes. These dishes must be washed before they are put out for 'sale'. So, our kids, working on an assembly line, washed A LOT of dishes today.
They washed, rinsed, dried, stacked - over & over. The kids ranged from 1st through 5th graders (plus all the adults & teen helpers). It wasn't easy work. It was enjoyable to watch and work with our kids.
Our kids were respectful & diligent & curious. I think they saw some things that they'd never seen before. And it was good.
After the dish project, we ate at the soup kitchen. The kids were a little nervous about this. They were afraid they'd have to eat something they didn't like, but they didn't. Everything was wonderful.
After the projects were done, we took a walk down Commercial Street to Askinosie Chocolate Factory. The kids got a chance to taste some chocolate and hear about their business & how they support some of the kids who are in the homeless shelter.
Later, Mrs. Kerri dropped off some candles that our ServeU (Vacation Sunday School) kids had decorated. It was intended to be a fun craft project that could possibly be items the resale store could sell. The wonderful lady who received the candles asked how we knew that they needed candles. Kerri was confused (as would I have been, too). She asked why they needed candles. Apparently the men who are homeless & cannot stay in the homeless shelter, often find themselves living in tents. The Kitchen ministry will give out candles so that the men can have light inside their tents at night. How cool was that!

Phil Wickham concert at FCC
This Saturday, June 20th, Phil Wickham is in concert here at church. Phil is a Christian recording artist who has written some incredible songs. He's also a great worship leader & it's sure to be an uplifting, enriching, amazing concert.
Tickets in advance are $10 for general admission or $15 for premium seating (1st 6 rows). Those prices go up $5 respectively on the day of the concert. Call 364-2649 to get more info. Or stop by the church office to buy tickets. They're also on itickets.com.
The concert starts with an opening act at 7pm. Doors open at 6pm. If you love Christian music, you'll love Phil Wickham.

Upcoming field trips
This week, I'm taking a few kids to work in the kitchen at High Hill. Please pray for our travel & that we can do some good work.
Next week, it's off to Springfield with the kids to Incredible Pizza. I do still have a couple of spots open. If you're interested call me to get details & to see if there's still seats open.
Saturday, July 27th, it's our first family field trip. We're going to the St. Louis Zoo. The cost is $5 per person for a discounted pass that includes the train, children's zoo & carousel. Bring your sack lunch or money to buy food at the Zoo. Please sign up by Wednesday, June 24th.

Baptism Classes
Baptism classes are scheduled for Tuesday, May 5 and Monday, May 11th. These classes are great for kids who are asking questions like:
- What is communion?
- Why do people get baptized?
- What is baptism?
- Who is the Holy Spirit?
At least one parent should stay in the class with their child. The class starts at 6pm & is usually done by about 7:00pm.
If you feel your child isn't quite ready for the class, talk to Mrs. Charla!! She has a great book that you can borrow & read with your child to help prepare for a later baptism class.
